Calls for Google to Go Green for Iran

Although I don't post much in the way of political rhetoric here, the events unfolding in Iran surrounding the fraudulent election are once again pointing out the importance of social media. The major media couldn't even get a handle on what was going on during the first couple days, and like many of us, were forced to watch twitter #iranelection for updates.

After 5 days of massive and sometimes violent protests some pretty amazing things:
  • A couple hundred Iranians are posting on twitter live updates as stories unfold
  • Twitter users worried that Iranians would lose the ability to communicate with the outside world, campaigned twitter to postpone a night-time system update. And twitter agreed.
  • Now twitter and facebook supporters are asking that Google change their logo for one day in support of Iran. Think they'll have the guts?
  • Some are also calling for Google to update their satellite photos so that the world can see the numbers of protesters LIVE.
Daily Dish suggests the Google Go Green request started with Mousavi himself and was passed to us via an active twitter profile in Tehran.
