How I got to my next book to read

Well I was perusing a post on Active Rain 5 Links Worth Sharing With 21,750+ 'Rainers ...

Which recommended a post on Gaping Void which had the following quote:

"3. Nobody cares about you. That last sentence terrifies a lot of corporate types. We grew up thinking corporations and the media was all-powerful. That all a guy in a suit needed to do was snap his fingers, buy some TV commercials, and suddenly the masses would line up in droves, begging to buy your product. Seth Godin calls this old world the "TV-Industrial Complex". Those days are over. We've got too many choices. We are over-programmed and oversupplied with great choices already. In the future, the companies that will win are those that can rise above the clutter. To rise above the clutter you have to offer something remarkable; something worth talking about. A great, award-winning TV ad campaign for a lousy product won't cut it any more. People have gotten too smart. And like The Cluetrain says, thanks to the internet, they're talking to each other."

Some Techno Meanderings

OK, so I was blogging this morning on Active Rain. Came across a guy that read quite often because he’s way into high tech stuff, Jeff Turner, and he posted Show Me What You Jott, Baby! … well of course I was intrigued since he discussed a website called www.jott.com which allows you to call a phone number and leave a message, up to 15 seconds, which is then automatically transcribed and sent to you in email form with the message also attached in it’s original recorded form as well.

This blogger decided to create an entire blog, by posting directly to the blog using these emails, basically an attempt to real-time blog without typing.

Interesting in itself.

But, then it caused me to think about other possible permutations.

· Emergency broadcasting, one phone call becomes an email sent to thousands of people

· Political emails on election day for get out the vote, one phone call of 15 seconds in length goes to thousands of voters.

· Phone messages from the office, instead of just a voice mail, or just a wav. File that you have to listen to, now a wav file and an emailed transcription that you could forward to the caller as a response or forward to a staffer to handle directly with comments.

What kind of wine do you want?

From Customers Rock!

Steve Woodruff also posted recently about Ravenswood on his blog impactiviti. Steve makes this comment about Ravenswood’s clever tagline:

Ravenswood’s tagline is No Wimpy Wines! Simple, memorable, and a bit sassy. While the elitist might consider this approach just a tad plebeian, for the vast majority of wine buyers who are looking for a good quality, hearty wine, this is great branding. It makes Ravenswood stand out, and the phrase taps into something “aspirational” - after all, who wants ANYthing wimpy? Finally, it passes the T-shirt test (yes, I have one with the crossed-out Wimpy Wines on the back - it regularly accompanies me to the gym, silently promoting heart-healthy Ravenswood reds while I do my cardiovascular workout!).

Note the way Steve points out the experience Ravenswood is crafting with their tagline, No Wimpy Wines. When you see their wine, you know what to expect — a hearty wine!

Z-list revisit

I've kinda dropped the ball over here on my marketing blog. The real estate blogs and political blogs (all local) are humming along quite well with guest authors being the real big improvement in the last month.

I wandered into this Just Discovered the Z-list post from a blogger in Finland and remembered why I started this marketing blog in the first place. Time to refocus ... again.
